Is Your Security System Ready When You Need It? Here’s Why Monthly Testing Matters

Your security system is your first line of defense — but like any technology, it only works if it’s working properly. That’s why we recommend testing your security system once a month, including all communication paths and connected devices.

From motion detectors and door contacts to smoke detectors and sirens, every component plays a vital role in protecting your home or business. Regular testing ensures that everything is functioning as it should, so there are no surprises when it matters most.

✅ What Should You Test Monthly?

  • All perimeter and interior sensors (doors, windows, motion, glass break)

  • Smoke and heat detectors

  • Panic and medical buttons

  • Sirens and sounders

  • Communication to our monitoring center (cellular, IP, or phone line)

📲 How to Put Your System on Test

Before testing your system, it’s important to place it on test mode to avoid any false alarms. You can do this in two easy ways:

  1. Call our office and we’ll put your system on test for you. (417) 831-2866

  2. Or use the Virtual Keypad App to quickly place your system in test mode yourself in the settings.

Once testing is complete, don’t forget to remove it from test mode — or just give us a call and we’ll take care of it.

1. Press the CMD key until MENU? NO YES displays.

2. Select YES. The keypad displays ENTER CODE. Enter your user code. Press CMD to scroll to SYSTEM TEST?.

3. Press any Select Key or Area. The system test begins automatically and the keypad displays: • BELL SOUNDING during a two second bell test • KEYPAD SOUNDING during a two second keypad test • BATTERY – OKAY or BATTERY – TRBL to indicate the battery condition • TRANSMIT TEST * and ATTEMPT NO : 1 during the transmit test • TRANSMIT OKAY or TRANSMIT FAILED to show the transmit test results • TEST END to indicate the System Test is complete.

4. Press the Back Arrow key to end the system test. * The transmit test does not occur on local systems.
